The government has appointed Mr. Md. Ataullah I Bhuiya, Additional Chief Engineer, as the new Chief Engineer of LGED .w.e.f. August 17, 2000. He replaces Mr. Md. Monowar Hossain Chowdhury who has been transferred as Chief Engineer to Facilities Department, Ministry of Education. Mr. Bhuiya joined LGED as an Assistant Engineer in the year 1968. He rose gradually to the position of Executive Engineer, Project     Director, Superintending  Engineer and later Additional Chief Engineer of' the department. He spent the bulk of his time in providing technical and institutional development support to the Local Government Institutions both in rural and urban areas. Mr. Ataullah has travelled widely for attending seminar, workshops to many countries of the world such as USA, England, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Nepal and India. Mr. Bhuiya graduated in Civil Engineering from the Bangladesh. University of Engineering & Technology in 1966. He was responsible, among others, for the I successful steering of Human Resource Development of LGED through a number of innovative training Programmes. He has professional affiliation with the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.
